Why you’ll love this cheeseburger bowl recipe
My family loves this recipe, and yours will too, because:
- My kiddo finds it easier to eat bites of cheeseburger salad than getting their mouth around a loaded cheeseburger in a bun!
- Instead of breaking it completely apart, cooking the ground beef in clumps gives you both the caramelized bits and the medium-rare inside, which is what makes a perfect burger.
- Melting the cheese on the meat in the skillet makes it, well, ooey-gooey.
Ingredients

Think of building a bowl like getting dressed in the morning. Pick one item you want to wear and create something around it. In this case, the cheeseburger is your new dress. You just need to add underwear, some bright happy shoes, and a few accessories to pull it all together.
The ground beef covered in melted cheese is the focus of the cheeseburger plate. Go lean with your beef, mix in some mushrooms and spices, and shred your favorite cheese.
Then add your favorite burger toppings: crisp bacon, avocado, sliced tomatoes, a variety of pickles, Pull these on over a foundation of lettuce or greens.
Then accessorize the bunless burger salad with your favorite dipping sauce. We used my campfire sauce here, but other great options include homemade barbecue sauce, sumac sauce, or blue cheese dressing. Or make a Big Mac burger bowl with Thousand Island dressing.

Recipe tips and tricks
I can’t take credit for the most important step in this recipe. You see, my husband took over my dinner plans one night when I sliced my finger while cutting cheese for these cheeseburger bowls. And he’s the one who decided to cook the burger mixture in clumps.
I start by frying bacon, then use the same pan for the meat. If you’re not making bacon for your cheeseburger bowl, use a thin layer of oil.
Chop the mushrooms and add the spices to the ground beef and mix well. Heat the pan over medium heat and pull off small chunks of burger mixture to put into the pan. You want the meat bits to stick together but you don’t need to roll meatballs.
Let the beef cook without stirring for a few minutes, and then flip over the burger chunks and repeat until no redness remains. Add shredded cheese and let it melt on the heat for a minute or so.
You can serve your bunless cheeseburger bowls as composed salads, or let everyone add their own favorite toppings. Enjoy!

Recipe FAQs
Yes, you can freeze the burger mixture, either before or after cooking, although you might want to reserve some for freezing before adding the cheese.
