An apple cake battle: Swedish versus sourdough apple cake

There was a reason I baked two very different apple cakes this weekend. The Swedish apple cake was for this week’s reddit 52 week baking challenge: week 22 – Scandinavian. The sourdough apple cake was for me. As it turns out, these cakes are a

One pan apple bourbon pork tenderloin

Like many of you, I’m always on the lookout for a quick, easy, and tasty meal that I can make on a weeknight. Something that doesn’t require much effort. Something that takes 30-40 minutes from start to finish. And allows me to make a salad,

Chicken and apple meatballs

Chicken and apple meatballs

This recipe for chicken and apple meatballs brings together two of my favorite dinner ideas – 1) meatballs and 2) fruit for dinner.

Why meatballs? Aside from a little chopping, meatballs are extremely easy to make, come together in about 30 minutes, and have infinite variety beyond spaghetti and meatballs.

This fig bacon jam pasta has a rare balance of sweet and salty, creamy and crispy. I know some of you will have no interest in reading a story about how my kiddo dreamed up this recipe. If that applies to you, please feel free

Duck burgers with cherry ketchup

Duck burgers with cherry ketchup

It’s a bit surprising that I’ve gotten this far into blogging, and these duck burgers are just the first duck recipe to appear. I’m a huge fan, whether it’s crispy duck, or a sauced duck breast, or duck confit turned into cassoulet.

This duck burger recipe is an homage to the fabulous duck burgers from Tilth, a Seattle restaurant that was owned and recently closed by James Beard Award-winning chef Maria Hines. The cherry ketchup, on the other hand, is entirely my own creation.

Purple sweet potato sourdough sandwich loaf

Purple sweet potato sourdough sandwich loaf

I really am in love with Stokes purple sweet potatoes. I’ve used them to make sweet potato latkes. And this week I made mashed purple sweet potatoes and banana. There was one baked sweet potato leftover from that night, so I used it for this
